West of St. Louis, Hwy-100 and US-50 merge into the high-speed I-44 freeway in Eureka, very near the massive Six Flags amusement park ($42; 636/938-4800), which has great roller coasters and various “theme” areas evoking aspects of Missouri’s past. For most of the way across St. Louis, old US-50 follows Route 66, which is covered on pages 000–000. The two diverge in East St. Louis, and the old US-50 alignment follows St. Clair Avenue, just south of present-day I-64.
St. Louis is the only city where three of our routes
coincide—US-50, the Great River Road, and Route 66.
