Farther along Hwy-56, nine miles south of Aurora and US-50, the village of Rising Sun holds a handful of frontier-era structures as well as one of the state’s biggest riverboat casinos, the Grand Victoria (800/472-6311), which opened in 1996 and actually cruises out onto the river so you can play its 1,300 slot machines. The adjacent hotel offers 200 rooms($90 and up). The historic parts of town have managed to stay quaint despite the influx of gamblers, and the old-fashioned (but newly repaved) downtown area has the very good Ohio County Historical Museum at 212 S. Walnut Street.
